When to pick Syrah? Joey Tensley responds

Joey Tensley talked through his approach to judging ripeness in Syrah at the end of the growing season. I am disappointed with the sound quality here and starting to look for an alternative the to Flip Camera I have been using. Any low price suggestions would be apprecated. Many more Tensley videos to come as I edit them.

  1. I hear you about sound quality that has been something I wrestle with. Would it be possible for you to try a separate recording device and save the flip camera for the visual? I use a little mp3 recorder and while it is not perfect it is certainly easy.

  2. I hope to have a local sommelier ask some questions out Pinot Camp in Oregon next week and might have her try to do the mp3 recording to be sure she captures the sound too. Thanks for the reminder, and for reading!

The audio on from Fred Scherrer in the Botrytis video was done on a small mp3 player before I ever bought a Flip. (Unprofessionally passed from hand to hand, thus the ruffled sound.)

Part of my problem with that approach is that I then have to synch the sound and the image - not the end of the world, but it takes more time to do.

In truth, for my own videos I just gave up on Flip and bought a Canon HD camera. It's great and the audio is of course far superior, but the files are huge and I now need to buy a computer with the video cards and processing power for HD. This is an expensive hobby.
